Build a Successful Marriage

Let us look at how to prepare and build for a successful marriage.

First, read 1 Corinthians 7:1-11, 39-40, 13:1-13, be committed to learn, forgive and engage God’s Truth and apply His precepts to your life.  The revolution for the healthier marriage begins.

Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.” 2 Timothy 2:19

Do you want to know what love is?

To find out, carefully read the 1 Corinthians 13 passage and see it as a character depiction of Jesus Christ Himself, Lord and Savior.  In fact, as you read this passage, you can even find and replace the key word of love with the Name of Jesus, as the NIV passage states, like Jesus is patient, Jesus is kind, etc.  Let’s see how this works:

Love is patient means that Jesus is patient as He works in and through you!

What would this love of patience do for you and your marriage?

Love is kind means that Jesus is kind and cares for you, even when you do not deserve it!

What would this love of kindness do for you and your marriage?

Love is not easily angered means that Jesus is not touchy or resentful or out to get you. He wants to help you!

What would this love of controlling your anger do for you and your marriage?

Love keeps no record of wrongs means that Jesus forgives you when we seek it from Him!

What would this love of no score keeping do for you and your marriage?

Love protects means that Jesus is protecting as He has staying power in and through you!

What would this love of protection do for you and your marriage?

Love hopes means that Jesus isenduring and points you to the future!

What would this love of optimism do for you and your marriage?

Love is perseveres means that Jesus refuses to quit or give up on you!

What would this love of perseverance do for you and your marriage?

Love never fails means that Jesus love for you will last forever!

What would this love of not giving up do for you and your marriage?

Love never quits means Jesus never quits. He does not give up on you!

What would this love of never giving up do for you and your marriage?

After you see our Lord in this passage. Now try to see yourself; insert your name into it like this–Joe is patient, Joanne is kind, and so forth.  You will see what we have to work on.

Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. Philippians 2:12-13
